The International Council of Museums (ICOM) is a non-governmental organisation of museums and museum professionals based in Paris which, to put it briefly, is concerned with museums and their contribution to society.
ICOM has formal relations with UNESCO and it carries out part of UNESCO's programme for museums. It also has a consultative status with the United Nations' Economic and Social Council. ICOM’s activities revolve around 116 National Committees in countries across the world and 33 International Committees.
