The 28th General Assembly of ICOM which took place in Rio, passed resolution adopting the Statement of principles as official policy.
A key CIDOC reference document, the International Guidelines for Museum Object Information: The CIDOC Information Categories, is at last available in French, as Recommandations Internationales pour la documentation des objets muséaux. Often cited in scientific writing and a fundamental texts used in museology courses throughout the world, the Guidelines were also used as the basis for the CIDOC Conceptual Reference Model. A Portuguese version is also in preparation - with luck in time for ICOM Rio 2013!

It recommends that the Statement of Principles should be put before the 2013 ICOM General Assembly with a view to its adoption as the official policy of ICOM with respect to Articles 2.20 and 6.1 of the ICOM Code of Ethics for Museums."
