Dear Members of the ICOM Costume Committee,
I am very pleased to announce that the 2017 Annual General Meeting will be held in London, England, from 26 – 29 June, 2017 at the London College of Fashion, 20 John Prince’s Street, London, W1G 0BJ.
Registration for the meeting should be done through brownpapertickets as we did for the Milan Triennial. The registration fee is 100 GBP/115 Euros/120 USD and should be paid by 1 June 2017. The access url is http://www.brownpapertickets.com/event/2721993 You can also go to the brownpapertickets site this way: <icomcostumecommittee.brownpapertickets.com> Registration through brownpapertickets will be available from 2 December 2016. As with the other meetings, subventions are available to members. Please see the application information on page 7 of the September 2016 Newsletter or on the Costume Committee Website <costume.icom.museum>
The registration fee includes only the booking fee for the meeting room, the access to the college canteen for refreshment breaks, the printing of a brochure and one lunch on the day we make visits to museums. We suggest that you purchase OYSTER TRAVELCARDS for the London underground separately. They come in 1, 3, or 6 day packages.
Because London is an expensive city, and hotels in the immediate area of the London College of Fashion are costly, you may wish to make accommodation arrangements further out from the center city.
CALL FOR PAPERS
The theme of the meeting is "The Narrative Power of Clothes." and we would like to have the abstracts submitted by 15 February 2017. We are looking at this theme very broadly, so it could be as much about the conservation story behind a garment, or the planning of an exhibition, as the story of one individual object. It might provide a nice echo of Orhan Pamuk's call to concentrate on small and personal stories made in his speech at the Milan meeting. Some of you who had prepared papers for Bangkok may find this a suitable theme, while others may wish to save those presentations for an Asian meeting such as the Kyoto Triennial in 2019.
Please send the abstracts to me at email@example.com by 15 February 2017
With best regards,
Jean L. Druesedow

With great sadness the Queen Sirikit Museum of Textiles announces the cancellation of the meeting Inside Out/Outside In: Clothing, Cloth, and the Meeting of Cultures, due to the passing of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej on 13 October and the official year-long mourning period. We deeply regret this necessity and ask for your understanding during this very difficult time. The Board of Officers is now seeking a time and place for our 2017 meeting.
