Former name of the committee: International Committee on Museum Techniques (No. 10) listed in ICOM News, 1st of October 1948.

The committee was officially created in 1949, at the 4th session of the Executive Committee ((Cf. ICOM News, Vol. 3, No. 1, 1950, p. 4).

The first meeting of the committee was held in Stockholm, 8-13 May 1950 (Cf. ICOM News, Vol. 3, No. 3, 1950, p. 4-6, p. 19-21)
