The cornerstone of ICOM is its ICOM Code of Ethics for Museums. It sets minimum standards of professional practice and performance for museums and their staff. In joining the organisation, ICOM members undertake to abide by this Code.

ICLM – International Committee for Literary and Composers’ Museums
ICLM's mission is to develop activities such as research, publishing, exhibitions and education for literary historical/biographical and composers' museums, to share and to disseminate the experience and knowledge gained in the development of these museums, to promote their cooperation and collaboration on the international level, to support their curators in exchanging exhibitions, in organizing seminars and workshops on various aspects of their activities.
ICLM members receive two newsletters per year and have the opportunity to participate in annual conferences, board meetings, and in various working groups. Board members are responsible for organising the Annual ICLM conferences and the publication of the Book of Proceedings of these conferences.
